Authenticated code execution via crafted metadata upload
Published Jul 12, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Arbitrary file upload in PublicCMS 4.0.202302.e allows remote authenticated users to execute code through a crafted metadata request. The CmsTemplateAdminController savePlaceMetadata handler accepts caller-controlled path and content values without adequately restricting the written destination or file content. An authenticated administrative session is required; successful exploitation writes attacker-chosen server-side content that executes with the CMS process's privileges.
