CVE-2024-40094Network attack vector

Service interrupt via unbounded normalized-field creation

Published Jul 30, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2024

Resource exhaustion in affected GraphQL Java releases allows remote attackers to interrupt services via introspection queries. GoodFaithIntrospection constructs an ExecutableNormalizedOperation without bounding normalized-field creation, so a crafted query can consume excessive resources before validation. A remotely reachable GraphQL endpoint with introspection enabled is sufficient, and the resulting resource exhaustion can make the service unavailable.
