CVE-2024-39846

Password disclosure via directly stored login secret

Published Jun 29, 2024 · Updated Nov 25, 2024

Cleartext password storage in NewPass before 1.2.0 allows attackers to read its database login password via decrypted process memory. LoginViewModel.createUser writes the user-supplied database encryption password directly to EncryptedSharedPreferences instead of hashing it. Access to the app's decrypted memory while it is in use exposes the login and database encryption secret, without reported integrity or availability impact.
