Authenticated code execution via unchecked password copy
Published Jan 14, 2025 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Wavlink AC3000 firmware M33A8.V5030.210505 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via HTTP. The adm.cgi set_sys_adm() function passes the attacker-controlled new_pwd value to two sprintf calls that copy it into fixed-size stack buffers without length checks. A valid administrator session cookie is required; overwriting the saved return address can crash adm.cgi or execute code on the router.
