CVE-2024-39720Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service crash via truncated GGUF blob parsing

Published Oct 31, 2024 · Updated Nov 1, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in Ollama before 0.1.46 allows remote attackers to crash the server through the CreateModel API route. The route parses a four-byte blob containing only the GGUF magic header when a supplied Modelfile's FROM statement points to that blob, reading beyond the truncated file and raising SIGSEGV. No authentication or user interaction is required when the API is reachable, and successful exploitation interrupts the entire Ollama service.
