Server code execution via disguised favicon upload
Published Aug 22, 2024 · Updated Oct 21, 2025
Dangerous file upload in Versa Networks Versa Director allows remote authenticated users to place malicious files through the favicon feature. The Change Favicon handler accepts files named with a .png extension without establishing that their contents are PNG images, allowing a disguised JAR to enter the custom-logo directory. Provider-Data-Center administrator privileges are normally required; observed exploitation used an exposed HA management port for initial access, after which the uploaded JAR ran inside Tomcat to steal credentials and load Java code.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
