Server-side request forgery via proxy handler substitution

Server-side request forgery in mod_rewrite in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.59 and earlier allows remote attackers to reach unintended backends. mod_rewrite treats crafted RewriteRule substitutions as proxy targets and passes them to mod_proxy instead of retaining ordinary rewritten-path handling. Exposure requires mod_rewrite and mod_proxy with a rule that permits attacker-controlled input to influence the resulting target URL.
