CVE-2024-39525Network attack vector

Routing service interruption via mishandled BGP packet

Published Oct 9, 2024 · Updated Oct 11, 2024

Improper exception handling in rpd in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows remote attackers to restart routing. With BGP traceoptions enabled, rpd mishandles a specific received BGP packet instead of rejecting it and crashes; Juniper has not disclosed the malformed field or code path. An established IPv4 or IPv6 iBGP or eBGP session is required, and continued packet delivery sustains the routing-service interruption.
