CVE-2024-39493

Service interruption via QAT reset work race

Published Jul 10, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Memory-management flaw in the Linux QAT driver allows local users to exhaust kernel memory or trigger a use-after-free during device reset. The ADF_DEV_RESET_SYNC path uses completion_done as a lifetime test before asynchronous reset work has necessarily been canceled, so reset data can remain allocated or be freed while work still references it. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and an Intel QAT device using synchronous reset; repeated leaks can exhaust memory, while the race can crash the kernel.
