Root command execution via MAC-derived SSH password
Published Jul 24, 2024 · Updated Sep 4, 2024
Authentication bypass in Adtran 834-5 Firmware before 12.5.5.1 allows network-adjacent attackers to execute root-level OS commands. The default-enabled SSH service accepts an undocumented support-account password derived from the device MAC address, whose last octet can be inferred from the gateway address or BSSID. Successful authentication opens a root-level shell; Adtran acknowledges the credential issue but disputes that intended functionality allows arbitrary root commands.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
