Unauthenticated file write via unvalidated upload filename
Published Oct 31, 2024 · Updated Nov 1, 2024
Path traversal in Webswing 23.2.2 allows remote attackers to write files outside the configured upload directory through a browser upload. The backend accepts a filename supplied by the modifiable webswing-embed.js upload client over WebSocket and passes its path to the Java application without validation. No authentication or separate victim interaction is required; files can be written anywhere the Webswing service account can access, enabling startup-script replacement and remote code execution.
