Denial of service via regex backtracking
Published Jul 11, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Regular expression denial of service in affected Wagtail versions allows remote authenticated users to interrupt service through a crafted search query. The parse_query_string filter regex accepts matches that start inside long unbroken words, causing repeated backtracking and excessive CPU consumption. Default installations expose the parser to Wagtail administrators; custom search implementations can expose the same service interruption to remote attackers.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
