Authenticated command execution via Samba configuration injection
Published Jan 14, 2025 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Configuration injection in Wavlink AC3000 firmware M33A8.V5030.210505 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands. The nas.cgi set_smb_cfg() handler stores the unfiltered smb_netbios POST value in NVRAM, and samba.sh writes it into /etc/smb.conf, allowing newline injection of directives such as root preexec. A valid session cookie and high-privileged web access are required; connecting to the regenerated Samba service runs the injected shell command.
