Runner code execution via unquoted branch name
Published May 30, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Code injection in Hugging Face Text Generation Inference before 2.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute code on a GitHub Actions runner. The autodocs.yml install step interpolates github.head_ref directly into an unquoted shell command, allowing branch-name metacharacters to alter the command. Exploitation requires a fork, a malicious branch name, a pull request to the base repository, and maintainer-triggered workflow execution; impact is confined to the runner context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
