Network credential disclosure via hard-coded encryption key
Published Jul 2, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Information disclosure in MSP360 Backup Agent 7.8.5.15 and 7.9.4.84 allows attackers to obtain network share credentials from backups. The NetworkCredentialsSettings password field in enginesettings.list is encrypted with AES using a product-wide hard-coded secret, so any recovered copy can be decrypted. Exploitation requires an SMB source with stored credentials and access to the backed-up configuration file; exposed storage reveals credentials but does not directly alter backups.
