Browser script execution via unsanitized profile fields
Published Aug 20, 2024 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Stored XSS in Friendica 2024.03 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in visitors' browsers through profile fields. The settings/profile endpoint stores homepage, xmpp, and matrix values without sanitization and renders them on the user's public profile. An account is required to plant the payload, and execution requires another user to view that profile, exposing data and actions available to that browser session.
