Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted option update
Published May 2, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in Fahad Mahmood WP Datepicker 2.1.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to escalate privileges via crafted AJAX requests. The wpdp_add_new_datepicker_ajax() handler accepts a frontend-exposed nonce, derives an option name and value from submitted form data, and calls update_option() without a capability check or server-side option allowlist. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to alter registration settings, create an Administrator account, and take control of the WordPress site.
