Unauthenticated localization interruption via stale scan subscriber
Published Dec 6, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
Use-after-free in Open Robotics Nav2 Humble allows remote attackers to stop nav2_amcl by changing an AMCL dynamic parameter. The dynamicParametersCallback path resets laser_scan_sub_ while laser_scan_filter_ remains active, so the filter dereferences the freed subscriber during reinitialization. Network access to the ROS 2 parameter service is sufficient; the demonstrated consequence is termination of the localization process rather than proven code execution.
