Localization crash via unchecked initial pose coordinate
Published Dec 6, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
Heap overflow in Open Robotics Nav2 Humble allows remote attackers to crash nav2_amcl via a crafted /initialpose message. handleInitialPose passes an extreme position coordinate through pf_init to pf_cluster_stats, which reads 168 bytes before its heap allocation. Reachability requires network access to publish on the ROS 2 topic and an active AMCL node; the demonstrated consequence is termination of localization.
