CVE-2024-38883

Credential disclosure via TDS7 encryption downgrade

Published Aug 2, 2024 · Updated Jul 5, 2026

Algorithm downgrade in Horizon Cloud Caterease 16.0.1.1663 through 24.0.1.2405 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to expose database credentials. During TDS7 PreLogin authentication, the client accepts a manipulated server response claiming that encryption is unsupported and then sends database credentials in plaintext. An attacker positioned to intercept and modify the client-to-SQL-server handshake can capture the credentials and use them to read, modify, or delete database records.
