Service interruption via repeated punctuation rescanning
Published Jul 10, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Denial of service in Django 4.2 before 4.2.14 and 5.0 before 5.0.7 allows remote attackers to interrupt service via bracket-heavy text. Urlizer.trim_punctuation repeatedly rescans and slices the remaining word while stripping nested bracket pairs and trailing punctuation. Exposure requires attacker-controlled text to reach urlize or urlizetrunc, where excessive processing delays or interrupts request handling.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
