CVE-2024-38825Network attack vector

Authorization bypass via public certificate reuse

Published Jun 13, 2025 · Updated Jun 13, 2025

Improper authentication in Salt 3006.x before 3006.12 and 3007.x before 3007.4 allows remote authenticated users to gain eAuth privileges. The salt.auth.pki module treats a CA-signed public certificate as the password and checks its issuer and Common Name without requiring proof of the private key. Exploitation requires pki eAuth configuration and a permitted user's public certificate; resulting access is bounded by that user's configured commands.
