CVE-2024-38823Network attack vector

Unauthorized action via missing request freshness validation

Published Jun 13, 2025 · Updated Jun 13, 2025

Capture-replay in VMware Salt 3006.x before 3006.12 and 3007.x before 3007.4 allows remote authenticated users to repeat requests. The request channel accepted encrypted messages without enforcing a timestamp lifetime, matching the minion identity, or requiring a session-bound token. A user with high Salt privileges who captures traffic on a non-TLS transport can resend a prior request, causing its integrity-affecting action to run again.
