CVE-2024-38798

Password disclosure via uncleared USB keyboard queue

Published Dec 9, 2025 · Updated Dec 9, 2025

Information exposure in TianoCore EDK II before edk2-stable202511 allows local users to recover password keystrokes from firmware memory. The USB keyboard driver leaves password characters in its circular key queue after password entry instead of clearing the backing memory. Low-privileged local access and direct examination of that memory disclose some or all of a password and enable later privilege escalation.
