CVE-2024-38637

Local kernel crash via unchecked channel lookup

Published Jun 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Greybus lights driver in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel through a missing channel. get_channel_from_mode returns NULL when no channel has the requested mode, but two callers in drivers/staging/greybus/light.c dereference the result without validating it. A local user must reach the Greybus lights path with a light that lacks the requested channel; the resulting impact is limited to availability.
