CVE-2024-38619

Kernel crash via uninitialized media geometry

Published Jun 20, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Divide-by-zero in the Linux alauda USB-storage driver allows local users to crash the kernel after failed media initialization. If alauda_init_media() fails, uzonesize remains zero, yet alauda_read_data() and alauda_write_lba() use it as a divisor. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and an Alauda-compatible USB-storage media initialization failure; the reported consequence is a kernel crash.
