Out-of-bounds read via OpenType sanitizer overflow
Published Apr 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Integer overflow in Mozilla Firefox before 125, Firefox ESR before 115.10, and Thunderbird before 115.10 lets remote attackers read out of bounds. OpenTypeSTAT::Parse() and buffer-read range checks permit 32-bit arithmetic to wrap while validating a malformed OpenType font, so accepted ranges extend past the input buffer. Exploitation requires a 32-bit build and user interaction with attacker-controlled font content; Mozilla reports possible crashes but does not establish code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=125

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
