CVE-2024-38572

Out-of-bounds read via unterminated QMI handler table

Published Jun 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

An out-of-bounds read in affected Linux kernels allows local users to access memory during ath12k QMI message handling. The ath12k_qmi_msg_handlers array lacks a terminating entry, so qmi_invoke_handler traverses past the table and reads an out-of-range eight-byte value. Reachability requires the ath12k driver and supported Qualcomm Wi-Fi hardware; the published report demonstrates a KASAN-detected kernel read but does not document code execution.
