Local kernel crash via missing codec DAI
Published Jun 19, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the MediaTek ASoC sound-card driver in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel during device probe. The probe path compares a missing codec DAI name as a string instead of assigning the dummy codec, dereferencing NULL. Exposure requires an affected MediaTek sound-card configuration with a DAI link that has no real codec; the consequence is limited to service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
