CVE-2024-38441Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated root code execution via FPMapName overflow

Published Jun 16, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in affected Netatalk releases before 3.2.1 allows remote attackers to execute code via an AFP guest login. The afp_mapname function in etc/afpd/directory.c fails to validate the parsed FPMapName length before writing a NUL byte to ibuf[len], causing a one-byte heap overwrite. With uams_guest.so enabled, the overwrite reaches adjacent heap metadata and grants root-context code execution.
