CVE-2024-38433

Boot-stage code execution via unchecked load address

Published Jul 11, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Authentication bypass in Nuvoton NPCM7xx BootBlock before 10.10.19 allows local users to execute code during boot via a crafted image. BOOTBLOCK_CheckImageCopyAndJump trusts header.destAddr after only alignment checks, then memcpy overwrites BootBlock in SRAM with attacker-controlled image data. Write access to SPI flash through physical or root-level access is required; successful exploitation bypasses signature verification and controls the next boot stage.
