CVE-2024-38373Network attack vector

Memory disclosure via unchecked DNS name length

Published Jun 24, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Buffer over-read in FreeRTOS-Plus-TCP 4.0.0 through 4.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to read memory via a crafted DNS response. DNS_SkipNameField receives the fixed pcName array size instead of the remaining response-byte count, allowing a domain-name length to cross the packet boundary. Applications must actively use DNS; the over-read accesses memory beyond the DNS response buffer, while applications that do not use DNS are unaffected.
