CVE-2024-38358Public exploit

Host file disclosure via followed sandbox symlink

Published Jun 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Path traversal in Wasmer 4.3.1 and earlier allows local users to read host files through a symlink in a preopened directory. The WASI path_open implementation follows the link and opens its resolved host path when create and write rights are combined instead of rejecting escape from the mapped sandbox. Exploitation requires a caller to preopen a directory and grant create and write rights; a crafted program can read host data or crash the runtime.
