Weak cryptography in IBM Storage Protect 8.1.0.0 through 8.1.23.0 allows remote attackers to decrypt highly sensitive information. The Backup-Archive Client and Data Protection for VMware use weaker-than-expected cryptographic algorithms, but IBM has not disclosed the algorithms, protocol operation, or protected-data locus. IBM has not disclosed how attackers obtain ciphertext or satisfy the high-complexity exploitation condition; the reported consequence is decryption only.
