Local privilege escalation via heap buffer overflow
Published Sep 10, 2024 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Heap-based buffer overflow in the Kernel Streaming WOW Thunk Service Driver in Microsoft Windows allows local users to elevate privileges. Microsoft identifies the affected driver and CWE-122 but has not disclosed the vulnerable routine, attacker-controlled input, or incorrect heap operation. A low-privileged local account is required, and successful exploitation elevates the attacker's privileges on the same host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
