SmartScreen bypass via unmarked WebDAV file copy
Published Aug 13, 2024 · Updated Oct 21, 2025
Protection bypass in Microsoft Windows allows remote attackers to evade SmartScreen by persuading a user to copy a WebDAV file. Windows Explorer copies files from WebDAV shares without adding the Zone.Identifier Mark-of-the-Web stream that triggers reputation checks and warnings. User interaction is required; opening the unmarked file executes attacker-supplied code with the current user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
