CVE-2024-38168Network attack vector

Unauthenticated service interruption via HTTP.sys requests

Published Aug 13, 2024 · Updated Jul 10, 2025

Uncontrolled resource consumption in ASP.NET HTTP.sys in Microsoft .NET 8.0 and Visual Studio 2022 allows remote attackers to interrupt service. Microsoft has not published the request characteristic or the exact HTTP.sys resource that is exhausted. Exploitation requires a Windows-hosted ASP.NET application using HTTP.sys and unauthenticated network access; it can make that service unavailable without reported data exposure or modification.
