CVE-2024-38108Network attack vector

Virtual machine identity abuse via metadata endpoint XSS

Published Aug 13, 2024 · Updated Jul 10, 2025

Cross-site scripting in Azure Stack Hub before 1.2311.1.22 allows remote attackers to abuse a virtual machine's implicit identity. The metadata endpoint fails to neutralize attacker-controlled web content, causing a victim's browser in the virtual machine to load malicious code and probe reachable host endpoints. Exploitation is unauthenticated but requires a victim to load the content; successful abuse exposes the virtual machine's identity and permits actions available to that identity.
