CVE-2024-38024Network attack vector

Authenticated code execution via malicious BDC model

Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Feb 10, 2026

Insecure deserialization in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016, 2019, and Subscription Edition allows remote authenticated users to execute code. SharePoint's Business Data Connectivity service accepts a malicious BDCMetadata.bdcm model that names dangerous .NET classes and methods, then reflectively loads and invokes them. Site Owner privileges are required to upload and register the model; triggering an External List or web part executes code as the SharePoint service account.
