CVE-2024-38002Network attack vector

Authenticated code execution via unchecked workflow updates

Published Oct 22, 2024 · Updated Oct 13, 2025

Incorrect authorization in Liferay Portal and Liferay DXP workflow components allows remote authenticated users to execute code via the headless API. The workflow update path accepts a workflow-definition change without verifying the caller's permission, allowing the submitted definition to reach workflow execution. A valid low-privileged account and user interaction are required; exploitation alters workflow definitions and runs code in the server context.
