CVE-2024-37882Network attack vector

Excessive reshare permissions via wrong owner check

Published Jun 14, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Improper access control in Nextcloud Server allows remote authenticated users to grant excessive permissions when resharing items. The reshare ownership check uses the recipient's identity instead of the original share owner's identity when validating requested permissions. The attacker must already hold read-and-reshare rights; a crafted reshare can give another recipient create, change, or delete access beyond the source share.
