Service interruption via unchecked AMCL distance parameter
Published Dec 5, 2024 · Updated Dec 6, 2024
Heap-buffer overflow in Navigation2 Humble's nav2_amcl process allows remote attackers to crash it via a crafted YAML parameter file. The node accepts a NaN laser_likelihood_max_dist value without finite-value validation and passes it to CachedDistanceMap, which derives an impossibly large heap allocation. The crafted configuration must reach AMCL and a laser scan must initialize its likelihood-field model; the demonstrated consequence is process abort and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
