Local code execution via oversized inflation radius
Published Dec 5, 2024 · Updated Dec 6, 2024
Buffer overflow in Navigation2 Humble allows local users to execute arbitrary code by launching nav2_planner with a crafted YAML file. InflationLayer::computeCaches derives vector sizes and write indexes from an oversized inflation_radius value without rejecting unsafe allocation dimensions. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and user interaction to load the configuration; the demonstrated result is a planner crash, while the CVE record reports arbitrary code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
