Local code execution via unchecked particle count
Published Dec 5, 2024 · Updated Dec 6, 2024
Buffer overflow in Nav2 AMCL in ROS 2 Humble and Iron allows local users to execute arbitrary code through a crafted YAML parameter file. nav2_amcl accepts an extreme min_particles value and passes an overflowed particle count into pf_kdtree_alloc's calloc size calculation. Local access and launching Nav2 with attacker-controlled parameters are required; the public reproducer demonstrates process abort, while code execution is asserted by the CVE record.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
