Authenticated query failure via unchecked function error
Published Jun 25, 2024 · Updated Nov 21, 2024
Nil pointer dereference in PingCAP TiDB Server 8.2.0-alpha-216-gfe5858b allows remote authenticated users to terminate a query. ColumnSubstituteImpl passes a failed function construction into collation inference instead of returning the error, causing inferCollation to dereference a nil expression. Database credentials and crafted SQL are required; PingCAP reports that only the statement fails, without disrupting other connections or users.
