Internal network access via unrestricted image URL fetching
Published Jun 20, 2024 · Updated Oct 4, 2024
Server-side request forgery in the strapi.io image optimizer allows remote attackers to scan ports or read sensitive data via a crafted GET request. The reported /_next/image route dereferences an attacker-supplied image URL without restricting the destination, causing the website server to contact internal or arbitrary hosts. Strapi disputes applicability to Strapi 4.24.4, stating that the route belongs to strapi.io rather than the self-hosted admin or library.
