Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode user attribute

Published Sep 2, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026

Stored XSS in Danielle Monnier LiveJournal Shortcode 1.1.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject browser scripts. The lj shortcode returns its user attribute to page or post output without validation or escaping, so a crafted quote adds an event handler. Contributor-level access is required to store the payload, and script execution occurs when another user views the affected content.
