Traffic hijacking via forwarded forged ICMP redirects
Published Jun 17, 2024 · Updated Nov 22, 2024
Improper source verification in Xiaomi Redmi Router AX6S Firmware 1.0.57 allows remote authenticated users to hijack traffic via ICMP redirects. The router forwards forged ICMP redirect packets between wireless clients without verifying that the sender is the legitimate gateway, causing a Linux client that accepts redirects to install an attacker-controlled next hop. Exploitation requires access to the same WLAN and a client configured to accept ICMP redirects; exposed traffic can be intercepted or altered.
