Phishing redirects via unfiltered backslash URLs
Published Jul 7, 2025 · Updated Jul 8, 2025
Open redirect in Gnuboard5 5.5.16 allows remote attackers to send authenticated members to an attacker-chosen site. bbs/member_confirm.php accepts the url parameter after host checking without rejecting backslashes, so browser path normalization produces a cross-host redirect. Exploitation requires a member to be logged in and follow a crafted link; the demonstrated consequence is redirection to a phishing site, not direct data disclosure.
