CVE-2024-37601

Service crash via malformed UD2 character decoding

Published Feb 13, 2025 · Updated Feb 18, 2025

Heap buffer overflow in Mercedes-Benz NTG 6 allows physically proximate attackers to crash the User-Data service using a crafted USB backup. During UD2 decoding, CHBString iterator logic treats byte 0xe7 as one byte while removal treats it as a three-byte UTF character, producing an out-of-bounds pointer and a memmove size of -1. Triggering requires physical access to the vehicle's exposed USB interface and importing the crafted profile; the failed service instance restarts automatically.
